An extract from the Faith and Hope website:
Music for the VW Golf advert by Mint Royale 15/02/2005 Between rehearsals for their approaching live dates, Mint Royale have completed the music for the new worldwide Volkswagen Golf advert which starts today (January 28th). The advert takes one of the most famous classic Hollywood movie scenes (Singin' In The Rain) and gives it a very modern twist with the help of some clever computer effects and great music. Gene Kelly's memorable dance sequence in the movie has been updated so that the star now appears to be Breakdancin' In The Rain. Having received permission from the Gene Kelly Foundation, the makers of the advert set about transforming the original scene. For the backdrop to remain the same, replica streets were built, and the ad makers used break dancers and body poppers to create the moves and follow the same route Kelly takes in the original 1952 film. Gene Kelly's face was then superimposed and a new remixed soundtrack by Mint Royale was added. A Volkswagen spokeswoman said: "The idea behind the commercial is all about the fact that the new Golf GTi is the original Mk I, but updated for 2005. The latest Golf is seen as a classic and iconic car and we really wanted to show that in a very unusual and memorable way." Neil from Mint Royale said: "When I was approached to do the advert it seemed like a great idea to be able to take such a classic song and give it the Mint Royale treatment".
